I usually don’t wade into this stuff and I won’t again (maybe?) but, hey, it’s Festivus.
As someone who faced an onslaught of attack ads in mail, on TV and from leadership, I saw this video and was angry again.
The biblical Egyptians were not the communist left, each of us knows this. This video is a good example of very real efforts out there to convince all of us to think a certain way and to vote for our teams loyally. As someone who’s childhood included celebrating the fall of the Berlin Wall and ‘under the desk’ bomb drills — I get it. If it comes to our shores, I will be right there next to you fighting it, too.
The fact is, these accusations take aim at programs meant to help the People (the taxpayers) in times like we’re seeing right now.
When I’m in doubt, I look to the Constitution. I always have — its an amazing document that means to empowers the People. I also like to look to those who’s ideas formed it. Some favorites:
“Government is instituted for the common good; for the protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness of the people; and not for profit, honor, or private interest of any one man, family, or class of men...”
- John Adams
“...They [political parties] are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the People and to usurp for themselves the reins of government. One faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism.”
- George Washington
There IS a power struggle in Kansas and in our Country. It’s not about the left vs the right. It’s about having a Government that serves the People or becoming People who only serve Government/Party interests.
I’m betting on the American People to make the right choice.
